HPE Proliant Hard Drive Replacement Instructions

HPE Proliant Hard Drive Removal

Caution! When replacing a hot-plug drive, follow these guidelines to avoid data loss:

Never remove more than one drive at a time (two drives if you are using Advanced Data Guarding).
Never remove a drive while another is being rebuilt.
If the system has a spare drive online, wait for the rebuild to complete before replacing the failed drive.
If you replace a drive while the system is off, you may need to rebuild the replaced drive.
Caution! Removing more than one drive at a time can cause the enclosure to overheat. Install a drive or blind drive as soon as possible.

Depress the latch and pull the ejector lever to the fully open position.
Pull the drive out of the drive bay of the enclosure.
If you are installing a hard drive blank in place of the drive, insert it into the bay until it clicks into place.

If a drive blank needs to be removed to install a new drive, squeeze the tabs to unlock the drive blank. Continue to squeeze the tabs while sliding the drive cover out of the drive bay.
When installing a replacement drive, press the latch and pull the ejector lever to the fully open position.
Insert the drive into the bay, sliding it all the way in. Make sure the ejector lever is in the fully open position to ensure proper locking.
Close the ejector lever against the front of the drive until it clicks into place.
Confirm that the drive is firmly seated and the ejector lever is locked.
Observe the drive status LEDs to confirm that the replacement drive is working properly.
Caution! Data can be lost if the drive is not properly seated.
